Good Morning!







Today students learned how to use the picture dictionary.


I would tell them to open on certain page number and look for certain picture or word on that page. We will be using the picture dictionary more often in class for activities such as journal writing.

Getting ready...

Dear Parents,
JKs are working hard for our Christmas Concert.
Today we spent most of the morning practicing.
After lunch students attended Phys. Ed. and French classes. We had our reading groups and to finish off our day we had our circle time where we played a game to recap the sound of the letters that students have learned so far.

Busy Friday!



Today we started off our day with a full dress rehearsal for our Christmas Concert.



Students came back to class, completed a couple of language worksheets and participated in our reading groups.



In the afternoon students attended French class and we finish off our day with movie and popcorn!

Instructions for Christmas Concert



- Please arrive at the school at 6:30pm, students must wear pajamas.
- Bring your child to the classroom.
- JK’s are not participating in the first part of the play; students will be sitting at the back of the auditorium under my supervision. Please refrain from talking to your child at that period of time, as some kids react differently when have parents around and they may lose their focus.
- Once their performance is over, they must sit with you.

Important

- Students must wear their pajamas on Friday, as we are having a full dress rehearsal.
- Tomorrow is parent teacher interview, please find your scheduled time in your child's agenda.
- We are NOT having Show & Tell this Friday.
- No homework today.
- On Thursday, Dec. 15 we are giving parents the option to have an earlier pick up time.
Students will have the dress rehearsal until 1:50pm. If you wish you may pick up your child after that.

Dear Parents,

Today we had a fun day!
We started off our day with songs and dancing. After that we had a nice story about sharing.
We then practiced sound of letters: A/E/I/O/U/L/T/B/M/N/
Students completed worksheets for letters L/T.
In Math we played some sorting games and practiced writing number 8.
After lunch students attended Drama, French and Phys. Ed.
At the end of the day we had our circle time where we sang and met a interesting puppet friend...ask your child for more details...he is orange and black!

Muddy

Dear Parents,
As some of you may noticed, yesterday your child went home with some mud on their pants or jackets.

Our backyard can get pretty muddy during winter months, teachers on duty try their best to avoid that students to go in the puddles or muddy grass.

Dear Parents,

We had a pretty busy day yesterday.
In the morning students practiced name, sound and formation of letter G.
This week our animal friend is Gomer Goat.
We also played some Math games and practiced writing number 9.
In the afternoon students participated in our first full rehearsal for our Christmas concert.
I have to say that everyone did really well!
When students came back from recess we played some phonics games and watched a short video from Sesame Street about letter G.

Dear Parents,


Today we had a busy day. In the morning we finish our class book, as part of our summative assessment for the unit.
After that students completed language worksheets and had reading groups.
Today we prepared a delicious Jell-o for our Try A Bite Club. Students loved it.
We just mixed fresh strawberries in the jell-o.
In the afternoon we made a craft for Christmas and played with manipulative.

Today...



We had our morning routine with songs, calendar, weather graph and devotional.
Students are learning sound, name and formation of letter S this week.
We completed worksheets and colored a friendly snake.
In Math we estimated and counted to identify sets with more, fewer or the same number of objects.

Students practiced writing number 8.

After that we listened to an audio story tittled "Olivia Opens a The Lemonade Stand"

In the afternoon students attended Music, French and had activities to promote fine motor skills.

Dear Parents,



We accomplished a lot today!
In the morning students practiced sounding out words with a vowel in the middle such as bug, pin, pan, top, hen. Some students were able to write down the words by listening carefully to the sounds! Way to go!
After that students finished a gingerbread man craft and we started to decorate our classroom for Christmas.
In math we played some games and practiced writing numbers 6 and 7.
In the afternoon we had our Try A Bite Club. This week we prepared baked banana with cinnamon and sprinkles on top, everyone tried and really liked.

SHOW & TELL



This Friday we are having our Show & Tell for letter H. Please feel free to send in ANY item that starts with H. You don't necessarily need to send a toy, it could be a household item, encourage your child to be creative and make this task an exciting event. Once again I'll be evaluating your child on the following:
Listening:
- Eyes are on the speaker.
- Asks relevant questions (stays on topic).
- Shows active listening (whole body).

Speaking:
- Gives three complete statements about show or tell.
- Uses a loud, clear voice.
- Uses appropriate eye contact.

Dear Parents,

Since the beginning of the year I am allowing students to bring in toys. So far we are not having any issues. I am just asking you to limit your child to bring in only one toy a day. Students are allowed to play with toys only during recess. Once they come in class they must keep their toys in their backpacks.

We started off the day with some songs and our calendar routine.

They were introduced to a new animal friend "Homer Horse".
Students also practiced writing numbers 1-5 and representing quantity, using snap cubes.

Healthy Snack

Congratulations to all JK-b students and parents!!!

Today everyone had a healthy snack in the morning!

Students received double stamps!

Today...

Students practiced words that contain the short vowel sound e.g. hat, bell, pin, box and cup.
They also practiced writing number 4 and 5.
We played some games and students attended Ed. Phys., French and Drama classes.

Try A Bite Club



This week we are started our TRY A BITE CLUB.
Every week I'm bringing ingredients to prepare (with students assistance) a new healthy snack.
Yesterday was our first trying and students had lots of fun. We prepared celery sticks with cream cheese and raisins on top.

The "Try A Bite Club" happens on Thursdays after 2nd recess. Please continue sending the same amount of snacks to your child on that day, as this activity is just a way of exposing the kids to a new healthy snacks.

Today...



Today students learned the story of The Ugly Duckling.

We had a very productive in class discussion time. Students shared what they think the book is trying to tell us and everybody came to the conclusion : "It doens't matter how do you look like from the outside but most importantly how do you act towards others ".

After that we made puppets and students had some time to act out.

We also had our reading groups this morning and worksheets done.

In the afternoon students attended French class (no music today).

Today...

We had a fun day!
In the morning we investigated what a pumpkin feels like, smells like and looks like inside.
Students helped me to take the seeds out and clean them up. Before opening the pumpkin I asked students to guess what they think we would find inside, here are some of the answers:
- Cars
- Spiders
- A spoon
- A dinosaur
- A hand
After that we painted our seeds using orange pant and let them dry. Once the seeds dried, we glued them on a pumpkin drawing.
Today we also prepared a thank you card to Provincial Partition who kindly donated the pumpkins to our school last week.
*Please note that your child is not taking home the Friday envelope, we are still working on the Language and Math booklet.
You will find the language homework in the front pocket of your child's agenda.

Today's class...

We started our day with our calendar routine, we sang and listened to a very nice story about ways of showing kindness to our friends.
In Math we are continuing with our unit on number sense. Students counted and represented numbers of eyes, fingers and toes.
In Language students review letters: A,E,I,O,U,L,T,B and practiced writing letter B.
For our unit of inquiry we read the story of Three Little Pigs, after that we had some very nice discussion time. Everyone participated really well and all remembered to take turns talking! Way to go JKs!
Students recorded in their journals their favorite part of the story. This exercise helps them to build up reading comprehension skills.
In the afternoon students attended Phys.Ed., French and drama classes.

In today's class...

We had so much fun!
We started our day with songs, a nice story time and our calendar routine.
Students had some time in the morning to practice the sound of the letters: A/E/I/O/U/L/T/B
Students also practiced their penmanship skills by tracing and writing letter B.
In our Unit of Inquiry we are talking about stories and sharing what is our favorite story.
In the afternoon, students attended Music and French classes.
To finish our day we decorated our pumpkin. Tomorrow the judges will decide which class will be the winner.

We are starting a new math unit on Number Sense. Students will be learning the following:

- There are certain rules that have to be followed for counting to be meaningful. We usually count to order, label, or determine the quantity of something.
- Numbers either increase or decrease when we count.
- Numbers are represented and named in particular ways to convey numerical meaning.

Too cold...


The cold weather has arrived!
Please label all of your child's hats, mittens, scarfs and coats.
Students go outside two times daily for 20 minutes each recess.

Reading groups

Since the beginning of the year, we have been reading together as a class. Today, we started reading groups. This time provides students with the opportunity to read individually in small groups.
I'll be assessing the students constantly during reading groups.

Reading Homework

Dear Parents,
This week we are starting reading homework. Every Tuesday and Wednesday your child will be taking home a reader.
Reading time should take 5-10 minutes.
This Tuesday you will find a letter with useful tips, a reading chart to keep your child motivated and the reader in the front pocket of your child's agenda.
Please return the book the next day in the same condition you received.
If the book is damaged a $2 fee will apply.
